5 Art of Living & Dying: Transforming Spiritual Suffering Audit

Art of Living & Dying: Transforming Spiritual Suffering,                                                                17-19 November 2023

This workshop provides the historical and theoretical foundation for the Anamcara. The study module is grounded in the contemporary healthcare sciences and is inspired by the great spiritual traditions and collective wisdom learned from the dying.

Participants take the material to a deep level of personal integration during this workshop. The meaning of life and death, compassion, and caring are explored in a nurturing environment. Based on lessons that the dying teach the living, this retreat format allows for ample reflection on the meaning of end-of-life ministry. Exercises include meditation, evaluation of life’s priorities, and self care skills for maintaining a centered, calm presence.

What you can expect from this programme:

-Learn about the essential quality of compassion and “exquisite empathy” in care giving through the meta-skills of contemplative practice and enhanced self awareness.

-Work with the classical tools of spiritual discernment with a focus on learning how to ask courageous questions.

-Rediscover the time tested skills necessary for maintaining a centered, healthy presence in both the professional and personal worlds.

-Experience a variety of creative healing modalities through: yoga movement, haiku poetry, mandala drawings from the soul, sculpting and the healing effects of music therapy.

-Learn about and experience some of the different principles and techniques of ‘energy work’ by using biofeedback mechanisms as a means of assisting a patient’s state of physical and emotional wellbeing.

-Experimentation with two guided visualization formats for the ‘healing of memories.’

-Exploration of the ethical dimensions of end-of-life caregiving as impact the long-term emotional and spiritual lives of professional caregivers.

-Examination of the distinction between caregiver burnout and fatigue as well as other practical antidotes to stress.

-Exposure to basic theory and techniques related to Jungian dream analysis, particularly as it relates to emotional and spiritual suffering at the end of life.

ONLINE PROGRAMME RECOMMENDATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Every participant of Sacred Art of Living Community’s online programmes is required to have adequate internet connection and appropriate equipment for a Zoom meeting/webinar.  This allows for each participant to be seen and heard by their fellow participants as well as the Leadership Team during our highly interactive programmes.  It is not allowed to simply attend a workshop anonymously (i.e. with muted video and audio).

Participants are also required to be present in an appropriate, stationary space with access to audio and visual privacy as needed.  Driving or riding in a vehicle during a programme is unsuitable to the integrity of the workshop and the quality of your experience and the experience of your fellow participants.

Full participation in these workshops is required.  This includes participation in the interactive breakout sessions and small group exercises that are part of each programme.

We highly recommend, if at all possible, to join our online programmes with a laptop or desktop computer to allow for optimal viewing and participation.  A working camera and microphone are also essential.  In our experience iPads, Tablets, and smartphones tend to greatly inhibit the overall experience for participants.
