The program is open to persons from all spiritual and cultural backgrounds. The Apprenticeship Program
draws significantly from the historical Celtic heritage and the ancient Ars Moriendi Traditions-- also known as the
sacred art of living and dying. The apprenticeship also builds on common ground between the spiritual and the
psychological, between the mystical and the scientific, and between Western and Eastern healing practices.
The work of an anamcara is ultimately for the transformation of the individual person and society. The essential
vocation for the apprentice is the bringing together of one’s soul and role [cf. The Courage to Teach by Dr. Parker Palmer]
regardless of a person’s occupation or life circumstances. As such, the focus for anamcara training is as much on
the Caregiver as the Care Receiver.
